In today’s blog, we’ll cover its plot, history, and awards, along with showtimes for you to see this musical in San Diego!

Plot

You won’t just be jumping to your feet with excitement when you search “plays near me” and discover “Sister Act” will be in town — this feel-good musical comedy will have you jumping to your feet for the whole performance!

Deloris Van Cartier is a disco diva who witnesses a murder and is subsequently placed in protective custody. Cops place her in the one place where they’re sure no one would suspect Deloris to be: a convent!

However, the rigid lifestyle — and uptight Mother Superior — are too much for Deloris to handle and soon, not even her nun’s clothing will keep her disguised! She uses her disco moves and incredible singing to inspire the choir. The church and community love it, but it blows her cover.

Next thing you know, the bad guys are in hot pursuit — but they’ll now have to win against Deloris and her sisterhood. From start to finish, this Broadway show is fun and active, full of outrageous dancing, powerful gospel music, and, of course, a moving story you’ll love.

History

  • The original West End production was June 2, 2009.
