SDMT Board Member Spotlight – Meet Malgorzata Wieteska-Slocomb!
Meet SDMT Board Member – Malgorzata Wieteszka-Slocomb – who was first introduced to SDMT when she went to see her daughter’s friend in our 2019 Freaky Friday production!
How did you become acquainted with SDMT?
Attended the 2019 Freaky Friday production which had my daughter’s friend in the cast.
Why did you want to become a member of the board?
My friend Becky Baird invites me to join the Board. We are both passionate about theatre and especially opportunities for young actors to work alongside and learn from seasoned Theatre professionals. I have always been very involved in the theatre (have shortly even worked for one in NJ as Stage Manager and then worked for a costume shop on Broadway in NYC. So when hearing about an opportunity to support a theatre of SDMT caliber, I was very happy to meet with Erin and Gary to hear more.
When did you join the SDMT board?
I became a board member December 2019.
What has been your favorite SDMT production?
So far I have seen very few, but I think Freaky Friday and Christmas Story are a tie for me.
Why should friends, co-workers, family members, community members, etc. contribute to your SDMT fundraising campaign?
Many of you know how passionate I am about the Performing Arts. I love to attend live performances, promote young talent, design costumes, I even volunteer as an usher when I find time! I truly love all things Theatre! Last winter, I have had the honor of joining Board of Directors of our amazing San Diego Musical Theatre. A fantastic organization I am very proud to support and represent.
As a theatre fan, I am most impressed with the Broadway quality musicals SDMT is producing, and as a parent of a young performer, I am most impressed with SDMT‘s Academy and their commitment to producing shows in their Pre Professional Series which cast and nurture some of the best young talent in SD area.
Sadly, gathering limitations and performance venue closures during the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible for SDMT and all other theatres to continue providing performance opportunities for our young actors and severely threatened the very existence of cultural institutions like SDMT. Please join me in supporting San Diego Musical Theatre and helping us thrive once more after reopening. No donation is too small, every dollar helps!
